I’m delighted to be able to announce that I am the composer for writer/director Gordon Foxwood’s new short, The First Spring (2023).
It’s been incredible getting to work with Gordon again after our last collaboration - Ten Shots (2020) - wrapped post-production right before the pandemic hit. Unfortunately, that meant that when it went to film festivals, Ten Shots was mostly virtual. Hopefully, there will be opportunities for me to get out and support this project at festivals this time around!
To whet your appetite, I’ll leave you with a first listen to the original (and very rough!) demo track that I sent to Gordon when we were deciding on a direction for the film’s score:
At thirteen minutes long, of which almost twelve minutes is non-stop music, this is not only the most music I’ve scored for a film to date, but it is also by far the longest single composition I’ve ever written.
Also, can I just say that being selected to score a short film presented by The New Yorker is a huge honour? Having my name attached to a project funded by them feels like a big deal! I’m really excited for you all to get to see and hear what the team behind The First Spring has created!
For now, though, I am excitedly and patiently waiting for the film to start its festival rounds, so that I get to share with all of you the work that has gone into crafting this beautiful, moving narrative short.
